We are a team of experienced, independent midwives working collaboratively throughout the Hawke’s Bay, supporting and guiding women throughout their pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal journeys.
Every woman should feel confident in their journey, and Maya Midwives is committed to your right to choose how your pregnancy and birth should progress. We offer a range of labour care and birthing options to meet your needs and expectations. In case of complications we believe in prompt referrals to the specialists, with the overall aim to keep mother and baby safe at all times. |

Home birthHome birth is a safe and positive choice for low risk pregnancies. Whānau, including children, are able to support and be as involved as is appropriate for your situation. We have a portable pool for water birth options, and always have two midwives attending and carrying emergency equipment if needed.

Midwifery unit birthThe Waioha Primary Birthing Centre is a dedicated, purpose built safe place for women expecting to have a normal, low risk birth. Waioha is located at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Hastings, alongside Ata Rangi, the hospital’s specialist maternity facility, so there is easy access to specialist care and support if needed. Our aim is to keep birth as natural and as physiologically supportive as possible. We will provide all pain relief options if requested or required.

Hospital birthAta Rangi Maternity Unit is a hospital based specialist care facility for women needing specialist support, and is located at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Hastings. Some women may stay in Ata Rangi for a period of their pregnancy if there are concerns for mother and baby’s health. We all have excellent working relationships with the medical staff and the obstetric back-up staff.
